SPLC Action Fund Statement on House and Senate Resolutions Calling for Immediate Resignation of Stephen Miller

SPLC Action Fund’s Interim President and CEO Karen Baynes-Dunning issued the below statement after Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) introduced resolutions in the House of Representatives and the Senate calling for the immediate resignation of White House Senior Adviser Stephen Miller for trafficking in bigotry, hatred and divisive political rhetoric:

“Stephen Miller is a bigot whose anti-immigrant vitriol has poisoned our national policy. He is the architect behind President Trump’s most extreme immigration policies, including separating families without any concern for the harm to children and banning immigration from some majority-Muslim countries.

“We fully support the resolutions condemning Stephen Miller’s actions and believe that all members of Congress should rise up and demand that the White House remove him from power immediately. Hate and bigotry have no place in our government and should certainly not be allowed to influence the policies of our nation.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center exposed Miller’s affinity for white nationalism in a special, five-part series that highlighted more than 900 emails that Miller sent to a former Breitbart editor, many of which show his anti-immigrant views that became fodder for policies he designed for President Trump. Several organizations, including the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, have demanded that Trump remove Miller from his position.
