Building a Path Toward Progress

Plagued by entrenched racial disparities, hope for a more equitable future rests on encouraging residents to join the movement for justice.

With one of the highest rates of poverty in the nation, Louisiana is failing to provide ladders of economic opportunity to its most vulnerable residents. An unfair criminal legal system that funnels young people of color into institutionalization can snuff out the chance at achieving success before they have even reached adulthood.

Channeling the spirit of the Civil Rights Movement, communities throughout the state can push for progress through collective action. And the SPLC is working to support their efforts through litigation, advocacy and public education.
