SPLC Action Fund Statement on Passage of HEROES Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House passed the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act, the fifth legislative package aimed at addressing the country’s public health and economic needs during the COVID-19 crisis.

SPLC Action Fund President and Chief Executive Officer Margaret Huang issued the following statement:

“We commend members of the U.S House of Representatives for passing the HEROES Act. It is an important step to ensuring critical resources go to those who need it most, particularly communities of color in the deep South. If our country is to fully recover from this pandemic, our government must prioritize the needs of all. We now call on the Senate to do their part and pass this important piece of legislation without taking away key provisions, especially those referencing the resources that many immigrant families working on the front lines have been denied. Families and essential workers are depending on this aid. Our country cannot afford to allow them to suffer any longer.”
