SPLC Action Fund on Trump’s Latest Attack on DACA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – SPLC Action Fund President and Chief Executive Officer Margaret Huang issued the below statement following reports that President Trump has issued an order to the Department of Homeland Security to start rejecting new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program applications and reducing the renewal period for current recipients of the program from two years to one.

“Instead of trying to guide our country through one of the worst pandemics in modern history, President Trump is focusing his energy on furthering his anti-immigrant agenda through his latest attack on DACA recipients for nothing more than political gain.

“This is not only executive overreach, but it’s also illegal. This order will not deter advocates or these young people and their communities who have fought valiantly for their rights. Now is the time for Congress to act and create a path to citizenship for these young people. This is more important than ever.”
