MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Today, Congress passed a harmful FY 2025 Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government. SPLC President and CEO Margaret Huang discusses the impacts of the CR on funding for programs and services essential to everyday Americans:
“This Continuing Resolution is a blatant attack on the country’s economy and on the American people,” said Margaret Huang, president and CEO of the Southern Poverty Law Center. “The Republican’s funding bill cuts billions from critical programs that many Americans depend upon. These cuts will make it harder for families to afford groceries, healthcare, housing, retirement and education, all essential factors of our nation’s economic stability. Critically, this bill also will amplify risks for low-income families, people with disabilities, people of color, seniors and more, especially in the South.
“As passed, the Trump supported funding bill will deepen poverty and inflict unnecessary pain on our most vulnerable communities. SPLC will continue to fight to ensure all communities have the opportunity to thrive in our nation and to protect the civil rights of everyone in the coming months,” Huang concluded.
