SPLC Statement on Twitter's Fact Check of Trump's Vote-By-Mail Tweets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The following statement on Twitter's fact check of the president's tweets on vote-by-mail is by Nancy Abudu, deputy legal director for the Southern Poverty Law Center:

“We’re thankful to see Twitter is enforcing its own policies regarding disinformation about elections and voting. Vote-by-mail is a popular and secure way for voters, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, to cast ballots without risking their health throughout the 2020 election cycle. The president himself uses vote-by-mail. It is shameful to spread lies about a trusted method of voting when lives are on the line simply to gain political points. State election officials of both political parties across the country should continue expanding access to absentee voting so that no voter in the United States has to choose between their health and participating in our democracy.”
