Antisemitism on the rise

A series of antisemitic attacks sparked fear and outrage across the New York metropolitan area at the close of 2019.

On December 11, four people were shot to death at a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, New Jersey. On December 28, a man burst into the home of a rabbi during a Hanukkah celebration in Monsey, New York, and stabbed five Hasidic Jews with what was described as a sword.

Both attacks brought renewed attention to a spike in antisemitic hate crimes not only in the New York City area but nationwide.
