Since his death on January 26, 2016, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum –– the spokesman for the armed occupation that took place earlier this year at a wildlife refuge in Oregon –– has become a martyr to the antigovernment movement nationwide.
The Southern Poverty Law Center identified 1274 anti-government “Patriot” groups that were active in 2011.
The acquittal of Ammon and Ryan Bundy, along with five other members of the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, has resonated through the antigovernment extremist movement in unsettling ways. And the Bundy family is warning the fight might not be over.
The group calls for the United States to ban Muslim immigrants and believes that President Obama has changed the Pledge of Allegiance to accommodate Islam. It has sounded the alarm that “card carrying communists have infiltrated” America's halls of power, and even warned that undocumented immigrants are having babies to stay in the United States and undermine the ethnic character of America.
